2023 Athletic Hall of Fame Induction

Congratulations to the 2023 Taylor Athletes who were inducted into the Hall of Fame on February 4, 2023.

2002 Division II State Cross Country Champions

The team was led by Head Coach Chip Dobson and Assistant Coach Rachel Rybolt. Members of the State Championship Team included Krystal Blevins, Carrie Crofford, Cristy Doll, Sarah Eggleston, Lange Gilby, Casey Lariccia, Heather Mangin, Sara Schmidt, Jen Stanely, Emily Thompson, Jen Kernen

During the 2002 Season Emily Thompson, Carrie Crofford, and Cristy Doll earned 1st Team CHL.  Casey Lariccia, Jen Stanley, and Sarah Schmidt earned 2nd Team CHL. Emily was the CHL Champion Runner. The Team had 8 athletes with a GPA of 3.25 or higher. The team completed an incredible run to the State Championship winning the Taylor Invitational, Aro Foundation Invitational, and the Elder Invitational. The team captured the District Championship and the Regional Championship finishing 1st, 4th, 6th, 9th, and 12th respectively.

At the State Championship at Scioto Downs on  October 26th, 2002, the Yellow Jackets were crowned OHSAA State Champions Earning 63 points.  Finishing in 1st  place was  Emily Thompson, 5th  place, Carrie Crofford, 15th Casey Lariccia, 20th Cristy Doll, and 21st Sara Schmidt.  The 2nd place team finished with 151. 146 Girls ran the Division II race.  


 

 

Isabelle Murray

Isabelle is the 1st Female in Taylor's History to win a State Championship in Swimming. Isabelle is the 2017 OHSAA State Champion in the 100 Butterfly. During the Prelims, she broke the OHSAA Meet Record with a Time of (53.47). She also placed 4th in the 100 Backstroke at the 2017 OHSAA State Championships. In 2016 Isabelle was the State Runner-Up in the 100 Butterfly. During her illustrious career, she also was a State Qualifier in the 200 Free Relay and a State Qualifier in the 400 Free Relay. Izzie Broke the CHL Record in the 100 Butterfly with a time of 56:80.  She is a 4 time CHL Champion in the 100 Butterfly, 2 time CHL Champion in the 100 Backstroke, 2 time District Champion in the 100 Butterfly and the District Record Holder in the 100 Butterfly. Isabelle holds (8) Taylor Swimming records in the 100 Butterfly, 100 Backstroke, 50 Free, 100 Free, 200 IM, 200 Free Relay, 400 Free Relay, and 200 Medley Relay. 

During OHSAA State Finals Prelims she broke 4 school records in the

o   50 Free

o   100 Free

o   100 Backstroke

o   100 Butterfly

Isabelle competed in 12 OHSAA State Swimming Events in her career, making  4 appearances in the OHSAA State Finals and earning 6 medals, which is another Taylor School Record. After High school, Isabelle earned a Full Athletic/Academic Scholarship to attend the University of Nebraska earning 4 Varsity Letters as a Cornhusker.


 

Coach Chris Hannum

Coach Hannum was a 3-year Varsity Letterman in Football and 4-year Varsity Letterman in baseball during his career.  After graduation, he attended Stetson University on a baseball scholarship. Graduating with a degree in Sports Administration, Hannum played one year of baseball in the Frontier League for the Richmond Roosters of the Independent Baseball League. Hannum started coaching at Taylor in 1996 as the JV baseball coach. He took over the Varsity Head Coaching job in 1999, coaching for 21 years until he stepped down in 2019. During his coaching career, Hannum finished with 275 wins including 176 CHL Victories. 

Coach Hannum was named CHL Coach of the Year 6 times in 2001, 2002, 2009,2016, 2017, and 2018. 

His teams have won the CHL Championship 6 Times 2001, 2002, 2016, 2017, 2018, and 2019.  In 2001 the team won a school-record 25 games with only 5 losses. Overall Hannum’s teams won 10 or more games in a season 15 times including (2) 20-win seasons.  The Yellow Jackets won Sectional Championships 3 times in 2001, 2015, and 2016 and a District Championship in 2001.
