Nick Jackson from I Am Speak Love visited Taylor for a unique opportunity. I Am Speak Love is an organization led by the belief that excellent character and unwavering love will allow us all to reach our fullest potential (iamspeaklove.com). During his time with Taylor students in grades seventh through twelfth, Nick reflected on an individual he was unkind to while in high school. Nick explained his hopes to apologize to the young man in his adult years. However, before having the opportunity, Nick received a call to notify him that the young man had passed away. The message was shared to explain to the student body how much words can hurt not only those the words are spoken to but also the individual who spoke the words.
Mr. Jackson spent forty-five minutes with the student focusing on social-emotional learning and positive behavior. He shared the acronym TEAM to instill the importance of being trusting, empathetic, accountable, and mission-driven in order to have a successful life and a positive impact on others.
Many students opted to stay after the presentation to ask individual questions. Nick stayed until every person in line had an opportunity to speak with him.
These social-emotional opportunities are invaluable in educating the whole child.
