With a Heavy Heart

Dear Three Rivers Community,
It is with profound sadness that we share the devastating news of the passing of Diem Mueller, a cherished member of the Yellowjacket family. Diem fought courageously against bone cancer after a diagnosis in July of 2022, and Diem’s bright light touched all who knew Diem. While the community grieves this immeasurable loss, the many ways Diem and the Mueller family inspired others with strength and unwavering spirit will be held tightly.
Diem was more than a student at Taylor High School—Diem was a friend and a talented and artistic student. Her commitment to her friendships and the THS band were unwavering. Laughter, creativity, and warmth will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew Diem. Diem will always be a Yellowjacket, and Diem’s memory will continue to shine brightly in the community. When asked to reflect on having Diem as a student, Mrs. Simms said, "I will always remember the bus ride to D.C., where cherry juice and beef jerky became the cause of laughter and memories. Your spirit taught us to embrace who we are, advocate fiercely for others, and live life without fitting into a mold. Your light will continue to inspire us, reminding us that being truly ourselves is the greatest legacy we can leave."
Heartfelt gratitude is extended to everyone who rallied around Diem’s family during this journey. The support shown through fundraisers, kind words, and acts of compassion exemplify the incredible spirit of the Three Rivers Community.
As this difficult time is navigated, it is understood that emotions will be heavy and complex for many. Please know that counselors are readily available to support students and staff as grief is processed. Anyone who needs to pause, reflect, or seek comfort is encouraged to take advantage of these resources. Classroom reflections will take place in the coming days.
More information will be shared as the District is made aware of any arrangements or opportunities to honor Diem’s life. In the meantime, Diem’s family and friends are held in thoughts and prayers. This is a sad time for all, but together, as a community, there will be grieving, remembering, and healing.
Thank you for being a community that exemplifies care and compassion. Let Diem’s memory be honored by continuing to support one another in the days ahead.
With deepest sympathy and love,
Three Rivers School District
