2021 Taylor High School graduate, Tyler Lay, finished his senior year on top. In April, he won first place statewide in the SkillsUSA welding competition, qualifying him to compete nationally.

In June the national competition was held, and Lay learned in July that he was among the top ten welding students in the country.

In an ordinary year, Lay and the other top students would attend the SkillsUSA National Leadership and Skills Conference for competitive events. This year, however, the conference was held online and the student competitions were done locally or regionally.

Lay, who spent his junior and senior year in the Welding program at Diamond Oaks Career Campus, also won an $18,000 scholarship to the Tulsa Welding School.

SkillsUSA is a national career-technical organization partnering with students, teachers, and industry professionals.  SkillsUSA competitions are designed to let students demonstrate their knowledge and skills.
