Katlyn and Kaitlyn from the Surrogacy story

We are honored to share a deeply touching story from one of our own — a story that beautifully illustrates what it means to be part of the Yellowjacket family: resilient, compassionate, and always there for one another.

Reflecting on a Remarkable Journey

Katlyn Sparks‑Haught, a proud Taylor High School graduate from the Class of 2009, reached out to our district to share a chapter of her life that is nothing short of extraordinary. She began as a transfer student at Taylor back in 2007, and little did she know then that her time here would shape her future in the most profound ways.

Over the years, Katlyn faced heartbreaking challenges: repeated IVF treatments, seven miscarriages, and a diagnosis of an autoimmune condition that made carrying a baby seem impossible. Eventually, she and her husband made the courageous decision to pursue surrogacy. That’s when another Taylor grad, an acquaintance who turned into family,  Kaitlyn Frey (West), offered to carry their child. Through Kaitlyn’s selflessness, Katlyn welcomed a daughter, thanks to her generosity and the powerful bonds of friendship. People.com

But the story doesn’t end there. In a twist that left Katlyn in awe, she later discovered she was naturally pregnant at 18.5 weeks, even though doctors once told her she might never carry a child. That surprise pregnancy came after her daughter was born via surrogacy.

What This Means for Our Yellowjacket Community

This story is so much more than a personal testimonial, it’s a reflection of the spirit we build here at Three Rivers:

  • Family First: This journey shows that being a Yellowjacket really does mean being part of a family. Kaitlyn’s willingness to be a surrogate, and other alumni offering their help, speaks volumes about the generosity that lives in our community.

  • Strength & Perseverance: Katlyn’s path was not easy. Her resilience through loss and disappointment, and her decision to keep moving forward, inspires all of us.

  • Miracles in Unexpected Places: Sometimes our lives don’t go according to plan, but that doesn’t mean they’re any less meaningful. Katlyn’s surprise pregnancy was a miracle she never expected, yet she embraced it with gratitude.

  • Connection & Support: The bonds formed in our school halls have carried over into adulthood. The fact that her high school friendship became a lifeline during one of life’s most vulnerable moments is a testament to the real, enduring relationships Taylor builds.

We are deeply grateful to Katlyn for trusting us with her story. Her journey reflects the heart of what it means to be Yellowjackets: family, compassion, and unwavering hope.

As a district, we celebrate her courage, cherish her friendships, and draw strength from her experience. May we all carry forward this spirit of community and generosity in our daily lives, in our school, and beyond.
